Tasty is the food inspiration platform of Buzzfeed. With over 98 million followers on Facebook and around 20 million app downloads, they answer the big question that families all over the US is asking themselves everyday – what’s for dinner. Moving from a traditional inspiration to cooking tool, Tasty wanted to enrich the user journey by adding the important step that connects inspiration with cooking – shopping.
With extensive knowledge of both running the Northfork SaaS platform for grocery retailers, and the consumer site gastrofy.se with similarities with Tasty, Northfork had the technical foundation for enriching the Tasty app experience with shopping.
Users were already accustomed of a grocery shopping list, which became the foundation for a shopping cart.
Northfork is using the Tasty recipe database as the foundation and connecting it with shopping at Walmart Grocery Pickup.
The new feature enables customers to directly purchase recipe ingredients for pickup or delivery from Walmart stores nationwide.
The Northfork feature Smart Cart seamlessly integrates with Walmart through an advanced, custom algorithm that translates recipes into full shopping carts, scales recipes to any portion, optimizes product combinations for minimal waste, organic options or the lowest price and also recommends products based on an analysis of historic purchases.
The cart is then being handed over to Walmart for check-out.
Launch of the Tasty recipe shopping experience is August 2019.
